6 Simple Ways to Increase Your Confidence Part 1

In this part of the two part series we will explore confidence. What it means and how you can have more of it in your life. In my previous blog, What’s Your Word of the Year, I share that my word of the year is confidence.

You may wonder how can I convey confidence to you; who better than one who is actually living the change; rather than one more person barking an idea at you. I do not know about you, but I am super tired of “people” yakking about subjects they have not experienced.

What Does Confidence Mean

The word begins with the meaning the feeling or belief that one can rely on someone or something; firm trust.

Let’s take a deeper look. It is the state of feeling certain about the truth of something.

Grateful heart Gratitude Self Love Self Care Magical BlessingsOr going even deeper. It is a feeling of self-assurance arising from one’s appreciation of one’s own abilities or qualities.

Once upon a time due to a domestic violence situation, I learned to distrust, disallow and second guess everything. It shook my confidence to the core.

I am no longer that person.

Brimming

I am brimming with confidence. It is another way to say that I am full of confidence. Or what I like to call True Voice, Authentic Voice, and Who I am.

Good Vibrations

Imagine for a moment that you have your own unique style and quirks. You are not afraid to be you. You know you and use your voice in a positive manner that is beneficial to you.  When you speak your truth you will find yourself surrounded by others who have the same vibration. They may not seem like your peps, and yet, they are in your vibrational allegory.

Yep, that may mean that people who once seemed cool and adored you, may now find you off putting and vice versa. Your true authentic voice and vibration will light your path. This is confidence at its best. Being brave and courageous to unequivocally you! 

6 Simple Ways to Increase Your Confidence

  1. Groom yourself: It seems obvious and yet it is amazing on how good you can feel with a shower or bath. I have been in a horrible feeling and poof as if by magic the water cleansed me both inside and outside.
  2. Dress Nicely: Get dressed. There was a point in time where I would slide out of bed, run a brush through my tangled mass of hair, pull it back and throw on a shirt and shorts; no care, just going through the motion. We all need days like this to rest and veg; but not when it is day after day. Get dressed this will boost your mood big time.
  3. Anxiety and/or depression zappers: Stop worrying about the past and doubting the future.  Live right now at this moment. Right now you are reading this blog post. When you are done you have moved to another moment. Go slow; step by step. There is no race.Dream Big Make Happen Choice Chance Change Magical Blessings
  4. Mindful breathing. This can be meditation. Taking a 5 mins midday break where you breath deeply. Let your mind wander. Breath in and out. Just breath and let go of worry, anxiety.
  5. Speak slowly. Give yourself the benefit of not racing to an answer. If you really mean no. Inhale, take a deep breath, exhale and slowly say, no, thank you. When you slow you speech, you are able to connect with your true feelings. It is okay to say no.
  6. Set a goal/new habit. It takes 21 days to create a habit and 28 days for this to stick. Choose a goal/new habit. Set aside time and work on it for 15 mins each day. Mark on a calendar your success and at the end of 21/28 days celebrate. Not a small celebration. Make this huge!

You Can Do it! 

No matter how many times your have tried or where you are beginning, be proud of yourself for trying. You are an amazing, brave individual. Now go forth and build your confidence one step at a time.

In my previous post Are you Shunning the Girl Within Part 1, I discuss the nasty subject of girl shunning.  However, let’s take examine this at a deeper level.

Do you sit with her, play with her, hold any interest in her?

Worst of all do you ignore her or call her names?

If you answered yes to any of these, there is a way to stop the snarky madness.

Moving Through the Pain

For a moment stop and ponder why you ignore or call you names.

Why do you dislike or dishonor yourself?

Who in your life created a way for you to do this?

Now, it is not about the blame game.  This is about getting to the root of it all.  Strong blooms, blossom better with strong roots.  So, we will explore and discover what is uprooting your girl.

Seek and you Shall Find

Inner Feminine Power Strength Magical Blessings Resilience Inspire Transform

You are seeking happiness and solace. There is anxiety, worry or maybe dread. It does not have to be this way.

You will need 20-30 mins for this activity. Please enjoy this in a quiet space and light a while candle.

 Let’s Begin:

Meditation:  For a moment, close your eyes and see you at the age of 6. You are playing hide and seek.  What is the best hiding place to stay hidden?

Journal Time: Open your eyes and write this down.

Meditation: Next, close your eyes again. You are still in this perfect hiding spot. Hold out your hand and speak very softly in a sweet gentle manner. What does your inner girl do or say? Let her speak freely; allow her the freedom to express herself.

Journal Time: Open your eyes and write this down.

Meditation: Close your eyes again, and using a gentle, soft voice ask her what she needs.

Journal Time:  Open your eyes and write this down.

Meditation: Close your eyes, offer to sit with your inner girl.  Do not rush; especially if you have not spoken to her and spent time with her. She may shy and disbelieve you.  Use this meditation and journaling activity as much as you need.

Coming out of Hiding

Let go of all that you “think” you know, and allow your inner girl to connect with you. She will show you things about you, that even you may not remember nor recall. She is on your side, and wants the best for you. You are an incredible team. Grant her permission to be this cheerleader, teacher and guide.

The biggest moment of all.

Standing Tall with your Inner Girl Power:

  1.  Be Authentic! Be you like no one is watching. Dance, sing, wear that lavender hair.  Seriously, no one cares. “If no one likes what you are creating, just smile at them and tell them to go make their own fucking art.” – Elizabeth Gilbert
  2. Speak to your Inner Girl. Let the conversation keep flowing. Do not stop it. She needs to hear from you directly, fully and completely. Turn off the electronics and spend 15-20 mins a day with her. She is a powerful force deep within you; she is your biggest cheerleader and ally!
  3. Honor & Respect your Inner Girl. If you say to her that you will go for a walk, meditate, paint do it! She will retreat once again, and find it even more difficult to trust you. You deserve self-love and self-care! 
  4. Ask your Inner Girl  for advice. Going to get a mani/pedi, ask her what color or what type of bubble bath, essential oil, colors to paint/color with. She loves that you include her as she is you and you are she. Ask what’s a good idea for dinner. There’s all kinds of way to ask her for advice. 
  5. Support your Inner Girl. Your inner girl is deeply connected with you, so she may be a great siren to signal danger. When she does this, please disallow the ego to override her. Again, she has your best interest at heart. 
  6. Calm the inner anxious storm within. Your inner girl is handy at helping with the anxiety monster that gets out of hand. Ask her to hold you, take your hand and guide you. She will thrive and enjoy caring for you; as she is you and you are she. She is great at calming the woes, doubts and worries.

Now your inner girl is not an excuse. Oops, my inner girl got her freak on or my inner girl made me do it. Do not use her as scapegoat; she will not tolerate that.

A nice example is I wrestled for a year to incorporate pastel purple in my hair. Finally, after peekaboo attempts, I heard my inner girl, say, “Girl, just get over yourself and do it, trust me!” I ordered the pastel purple and very much enjoy the gorgeous lavender locks!! My inner girl was so spot on!

The Many Uses of Lavender

Let’s explore the many uses of lavender. Some may call this folktale remedies, the yesteryear of a traveling medicine man, a witch brewing her concoction or a Native Medicine Man/Woman. Lavender has many essences to help you with emotional and mental health.

Why Lavender is Useful

Lavender is a very versatile herb and flower.  Most of us use the flower buds.

  • Relaxing
  • Restorative
  • Eases anxieties
  • Soothes anger
  • Calms over activity (ADD/ADHD) or helps slow down an overactive mind
  • Meditation
  • Decorative
  • Edible
  • Essential Oil

Herb 

lavender book serene tranquil calm restore relax rest transformLavender is an herb that has so many wonderful uses. Not only is this gorgeous to grow in your yard, but is also a great houseplant.

Imagine for a moment a meditation room with ivory walls, a light silk fabric flowing with the air movement and the aroma of a lavender plant naturally calming this space. To me, this sounds like a serene meditation space to relax and restore you in a sea of serenity.

Dry the lavender blooms and voila more uses.

  • Add a 1/4 tsp lavender buds, 1/4 tsp chamomile blooms, and 1 tsp marshmallow root to brew a nice relaxing tea. You may sweeten this with 1 tsp cane sugar, honey or whatever you enjoy. This will soothe your mind, body and spirit.
  • Make a lavender satchel with dried lavender buds. This wonderful aroma can be use for you, your linen or lingerie draws, or as a gift.
  • Use lavender buds for a floral pick me up in any room.
  • Place lavender buds on a gift or gift tag.
  • Sprinkle lavender buds in your pillowcase for a restful slumber.
  • Tie lavender buds together and create a decorative sweetly scented wreath.

 

Essential Oil

lavender essential oil soothe relax calm restore transform spiritual divine You can make your own or purchase lavender essential oil. There are so many incredible ways that you can  imagine with lavender essential oil.

  • Place a drop or two of lavender essential oil with 1-2 drops of coconut oil on a cotton ball and tuck this in your bra for an all day and natural stress reliever.
  • Use 2-3 drop of l.e.o in your bath with Epsom salt and this soothes your tired, sore muscles.
  • Add 1-2 drops of l.e.o. to sugar. Step in shower, use the sugar scrub  on your body; next,  turn on the shower water to wash off and reveal sparkly soft skin
  • Place 1-2 drops of l.e.o and c.o on the bottom of a child’s foot who refuses to sleep and poof, voila slumber.
  • Add 3-4 drop of l.e.o into a diffuser and fill your space with this serene aroma.

 Animal Friends

I am not a fan of the harsh anti-flea remedies. So,  I located at my health food store a natural option with lavender and other herbs collar.  Fortunately, I have also found soothing anti-anxiety lavender collars for my dog who was terrified of fireworks; and I would even spray l.e.o on her bed during high firework seasons.  This helped calm her down.

Edible

Yep, you can eat and ingest lavender buds. Edible lavender helps soothe your mind body and spirit in a gentle way.

  • A favorite treat of mine in the hot summer is lavender mint ice tea.
  • Another sweet treat is lavender sugar.
  • Once upon a time local bakery baked the most incredible lemon & lavender muffins.

The possibilities are endless with lavender.
